CURATOR'S CHOICE
Godzilla is an extraordinary FIRST in my career as a Curator of Inuit Art. For this reason alone, this Inuit depiction of a pop culture icon by Jaco Ishulutaq is a CURATOR'S CHOICE.

Masterpiece Carving! Museum quality Sculpture!

Godzilla is an enormous, destructive prehistoric sea monster awakened and empowered by nuclear radiation.

A fictional monster, Godzilla originated from a series of Japanese films beginning in 1954.  The monster became a worldwide pop culture icon.

Some felt that Godzilla was conceived as a metaphor for nuclear weapons. Others suggested Godzilla is a metaphor for the United States, a giant beast woken from its slumber which then takes terrible vengeance on Japan.

Of course, Jaco would have to eventually create his take on a fantasy figure of pop culture!

Jaco's carvings are epic, full of fantasy and always, always tell a spectacular story.

Look at the massive teeth and the frightening eyes of this carving!

The lurching posture and the large outreaching arms and hands are threatening and frightful.

I love the colour of the stone and the distribution of the colour.  Light green on the muzzle and lower body.  Dark green on the torso and neck.

You will NEVER come across another carving like Godzilla.

He could be yours now!
