How Is an Inuit artist/carver able to consistently understand the vital spark of his subject’s soul?

This Beluga whale is an innanimate object and YET, Uttaq has the talent to anthropomorphize his subject and connect us to him through our emotion.

I see “Beluga” slowly swimming across the chilly sees of the Baffin strait. Alone but unfazed. His mission must be accomplished. He is above all else, “the creature of the sea who points the way”.

This sculpture’s stubborn resolve brings us peace. We feel secure in his presence.

This piece is signed on the bottom and comes with the Igloo Tag of Authenticity.
