CURATOR'S CHOICE

The carvings from Gjoa Haven are not like any other Inuit carvings.
Magus is intense, dramatic and irresistable.  I had to make him a CURATOR's CHOICE.

Masterpiece Carving! Museum quality Sculpture!

Wayne is the son of world renowned Gjoa Haven carver Uriash Puqiqnak.

Indeed, educated collectors of Inuit carvings are likely to immediately recognize Uriash's "grotesque style" sculptures with their pony tails and sparse crooked teeth as being from Gjoa Haven.

Wayne Puqiqnak has earned the right to be recognized as a talented and exciting Inuit artist.

Magus is a shaman piece that beckons to you; asking for you to take a closer look.

The colour and pattern of the stone is very unusual.

The local serpentinite stone is a matte black stone with flecks of green BUT this stone has such personality.

The back of the shaman is a light blue gray colour.

Within the light blue colour is a grey pattern that mimics lichen

This magical organic pattern continues onto the front of the shaman.

In beautiful contrast to the torso is the shiny deep black colour of the head, feet and tail.

Finally, the facial features are carved in the wonderful Gjoa Haven grotesque style with inlaid yellow eyes, wide nostrils and the requisite prominent lower teeth.

When the light shines on Magus the colours emerge and pop!

So intriquing.

This is a piece that will attract a lot of attention and will add a certain je ne sais quoi to your collection.
