Masterpiece Carving! Museum quality Sculpture!
Simeonie was born in 1931 in an outpost camp near Kimmirut, NU.
As a young child, he lived a camp life living in tents and igloos.
The community reared their sled dogs and fished and hunted in order to live a traditional Inuit life.
A GOOD DAY is the story of a Male Eskimo Hunter and Fisherman who is on his way home.
He is laden with his "catch".
A plethora of fish in his right hand, a bag which contains his "tools" and possibly more food for his family in his left hand.
He is laden down but he does not feel burdened.
He is grateful that he has come into this abundance.
Every view of A Good Day, inspires.
You can feel this Inuk's strength, both physical and spiritual.
He knows who he is.
He knows what is required of him.
He WILLINGLY accepts his role as provider and leader of his family.
Every once in a while, you encounter an Inuit artist who can release emotion from the stone he carves.
It is an incredible event when it occurs.
Simeonie Aqpiq is such an artist.
