This is an exquisite rendition of the famous Canadian Snowy Owl. The green stone is absolutely breathtaking. The purity of it is so vibrant. A true masterpiece.

It is the contrasting spectre of radiant black marble stone merging onto the stirring yellow inlaid eyes which makes this piece parade onto another level of tenacious exuberance. This immediately grabbed my attention, especially when able to see it done in this stone. It makes for an especially exciting piece.

The inlayed eyes are Manning's raison d'etre and contribution to the Inuit art world. There is no artist that has mastered this gruelling technique quite like Manning. Fitting them into the stone takes much experience and skill. It is the eye catching colors of the eyes that bring his pieces to life.

This is a gorgeous and classic snowy owl by world renown Joanasie Manning. He is internationally famous for his owls like these ones (mother owl with a chick).

The eyes made from caribou antler blend exquisitely with the dark serpentine stone. The carving is polished to a mirror shine with beautiful proportions and lines throughout.

Joanasie Manning (1967- )

Joanassie was born and lived in Cape Dorset all his life.

Joanassie began carving at the age of twenty. His grandfather, the renowned carver Osuitok Ipeelee, was a great influence on his work. After carving sporadically for a number of years, Joanassie is now working more consistently. He has evolved a personal style that is becoming stronger and more confident.*
