Takatak’s loons are celebrated in the avant garde circles of Inuit art. He has an international presence as an Inuit carver.
The face and wings of Pale Loon are exquisitely and painstakingly embroidered with fine white lines. Loon’s face is gentle and calm. The eyes are wide and beseeching. The soft green colour of the stone is serene. This is a simple carving with a feminine spirit.
Takatuk resides in Sanikiluaq in the Belcher Islands. The Islands have a very large resident and migratory bird population. It is no surprise then that birds are the most popular subjects for local carvers. Small scale and elegant, Pale Loon is typical of the art that was popular in this community circa 1950s.
Because loons mate for life, loon sculptures are often gifted as wedding presents.
Also consider gifting this jewel to the birder in your life or even a young novice collector with a passion for nature.
Fantastic etching marks (feathers and wings).
Loons are mates for life, that's why they are great as wedding gifts.
