This is the third piece I acquired recently from a solo exhibition by Pits Qimirpik in Toronto, On, entitled “Life in Miniature”.

It is so hard to fathom that this beautiful dancing walrus is only 4 inches in height!
He is perfectly balanced with his head extended backward and his foot held high off the ground. It is incredibly difficult for a carver to achieve this balance in a medium to large carving. It is a testament to Pits’ talent that he has been able to balance this exquisite creature AND create the illusion of graceful movement at the same time.

In addition to all of that, this walrus sports his compulsory fear provoking tusks. In a miniature form!

Pits Qimirpik has my respect. He has earned his spot among the top ranks of Inuit carvers today. And he is a trail blazer. His iconic MP3 player theme is eagerly sought after by the educated Inuit art collector.

This gorgeous dancing walrus would be a thoughtful Christmas gift or a retirement gift. How many collectors can say they have a miniature carving from Pits Qimirpik in their collection? This is a rare event. And collectors are mad for unique and unusual pieces.
