I was so lucky recently to be able to purchase several astonishing sculptures from Inuit artist Peter K.

There are very few Inuit artists who excel in carving vignettes of Inuit life. Jimmy Iqaluq and Moses Kamookak(Gjoa Haven) are two well known carvers who produce scenes that will forever bare witness to the traditional life of the Inuit.

Peter has carved a scene of an Inuk in his kayak (umiak) fervently paddling home with his kill!

Look at the emotion on this Inuk's face. When have you seen such intensity?

Peter is a master carver.  The face, the body with the outstretched arm clutching his spear.... amazing AND inspirational.

The seals are tied up lying on the umiak.  The colours of the stone are gorgeous.  The seals contrast so beautifully against the warm earthy colours of the kayak.

This is a perfect example of the adage "a picture is worth a thousand words".

Peter's perfectly executed scenes take your breath away and leave you marvelling over how a person can carve such a poignant story from a rock.
