Elizabeth was born in Ennadai Lake but moved to Arviat in the 1960s.

She was part of a small group of displaced members of her group who took up stone carving as they adjusted to sedentary settlement life.

She was seen as a matriarch in her community.

Many of her carvings depicted mothers nursing their children.

Her tenderness and elementary style elevated her to a leading artistic voice of her generation.

Mater encompasses the essence of Motherhood.
