Masterpiece Carving! Museum quality Sculpture!
Tuna Iquik was a FIRST GENERATION Inuit artist and a BAKER LAKE artist.
These artists were usually the last of the Inuit who lived TRADITIONALLY.
They lived in IGLOOS in the winter and SKIN TENTS in the summer.
The land provided their food, clothing and heat.
No COOPS or skidoos!
Baker Lake artists are Minimalists.
The extremely hard Basalt stone is difficult to carve.
The carvings are not as detailed, features are often implied and not realistic.
Often the carvings are large, not in height but in proportion just like our Inuk Mother.
BAKER LAKE SCULPTURE are an aesthetic that is very popular.
No other region has this distinct look!
LAZY DAYS IN BAKER LAKE is a heart tugging, joyful piece of innocence.
