Museum quality sculpture!

This is one of world-class carver Manasie Maniapik's finest pieces.

Hanta is magnetic.

His pure black stone illuminates all the detailed features of the Inuk's face, hands and clothing.

The stone has a soft and gentle appearance which attracts the viewer to Hanta's life force.

You find yourself first staring at Hanta's face, then his clothing and finally his weapons of war: his harpoon and his carefully coiled rope.

What I love about this piece, is the tension Manasie has created between the man and his weapons.

When you look at the facial expression, you see benevolence, happiness and a resigned acceptance of his lot in life.  To survive he must kill.

When you see the sharp barbed tip of the harpoon, you are abruptly transported into scenes of the hunt.  Blood and fear and death.

Manasie's sculpture is a bittersweet depiction of man's place in the world.

What must we do to survive?

Hanta's lines and curves are absolutely perfect.

This carving inspires, with both its message and its artistic qualities.

Manasie is a talented carver whose pieces are distinctive in their beauty and demeanor.
