VIXEN is a DANCING Hunter.
This is a rare piece, because Vixen is standing on one foot!
He is carrying a small hunting tool and appears to be carrying something on his back.
The Grotesque style of carving (which is common in Gjoa Haven), allows the artist license to have absent and abstract body parts.
Vixen is caught mid-motion.
Perhaps about to bend forward with his "knife" to carry out his hunting "job".
The wild Arctic wind is blowing.
His movements are hampered by the weather.
Vixen has all the Gjoa Haven Grotesque features: small irregular peg teeth, inlaid yellow eyes located high on his forehead and body parts that are usually asymmetric and abstract.
Don't expect many realistic features of a Gjoa Haven sculpture.
Gjoa Haven carvers love to be mischievous and unpredictable.
Every art collector should have a Gjoa Haven sculpture in their collection.
Make the leap.
