Masterpiece Sculpture! Magnificent Movement!
Do you know what I love about Inuit Art?
Just when I think I've seen the nicest piece of my life... I am amused, surprised, and astonished to come across a sculpture that is even nicer.
FAMILY JEWELS is such a piece.
Johnnysa Mathewsie carved these two magnificent Orcas as members of the same family.
The two young Orcas are racing each other aroud the various rocks and outcroppings on the ocean floor.
Every few minutes, one of the Orcas heads to the surface at lightening speed and lands a giant splash.
Their pure white underbellies and the large white patches surrounding their eyes are made even whiter by the contrast of the deep rich black green of their bodies.
Can you feel the energy and happiness pouring out of these Orcas?
Young innocence!
Quite frankly, this Orca pair are hard to resist.
Perhaps it's the sleekness of the animals or their size and colour but the Orcas possess an extraordinary post-modern bohemian feel that would easily be at home in a high-rise condo in downtown Toronto or Tribeca NYC.
