ON THE BEACH is a magnificent, historically significant scene of polar bears cavorting on an Arctic beach.
The setting is tranquil.
It captures the nuances of the Arctic shores.

The beach is carved from whalebone.
Multiple small ivory polar bears are climbing and exploring the hilly beach.
The bears are incredible.
Smooth ivory (walrus tusk) carved with the same detail as a much larger carving.
Emily Illuitok was internationally recognized for her carving.
She carved an Ivory Nativity Scene for Pope Benedict XVI.
She loved to carve Dog sledding, dog teams, camp and family scenes.
Decades ago, carvers in remote Northern communities were encouraged to carve small
Ivory pieces as they were easier to ship by mail.
One day, On The Beach will almost certainly find its way into an Art Museum.
Emily's international reputation and her subject matter makes this piece historically
significant to her community and to Canada.
