There are times when I ask myself when its time to start my own private collection. This was one of those times. the flow and movement in this piece, parred into the rich dark stone makes this a monumental work. It is paramount in every category and is why I instantly fell in Love with it.
This extroadinary work is possibly unique in Parr's oevre in that it strays from his more medium sized format of bears. Parr is just as famous for his depiction of walking bear as is the likes of other greats like Nuna Parr and Joe Kavik. He has created an impressive body of sculptures depicting walruses and other animals as well, but it is his affinity with the bear that has captured the imagination of collectors Well respected as an artist, his works are held in several public collections including the National Gallery of Canada and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. This bear reveals the artist's keen admiration and understanding of the animal's form and movements.
Parr has an uncanny ability to render both the massiveness and the quiet grace of the bear with surprising spirituality and form. The radical truncation of the bear's body creates visual ambiguity.
This is an absolutely brilliant, large and spectacular walking bear by the acclaimed Inuit artist late Peter Parr (son of Nuna Parr) from Cape Dorset.
One of the last large dancing bears by him.
Here is the tragic story that occurred with the late Peter Parr. CBC - Peter Parr.
The beautiful dark stone throughout really make a statement for this carving. I have always been drawn to carvings done in this specific colour as it illuminates its entire surroundings and your audience will immediately take notice when entering the room.
The flowimg motion and voluptuous curves make this a masterpiece.
The overall composition is very dynamic and lively. It is polished to perfection with a high gloss effect as well as immaculate and crisp proportions. This is as nice as they come for walking bears as it is a classic Peter Parr bear.
It it carved beautifully and stands with much grace.
It comes with an Igloo Tag (Certified of Authenticity), signed on the bottom both.
This is a really beautiful carving, and will be a centre piece of your collection.
