Recently, Pits has been flying back and forth to Ottawa to visit his wife who has been experiencing some health issues. In order to fund his travel fare, he has been carving the most beautiful owls for me with a little more regularity.
I have never seen his owls and eagles so crisp and dynamic. In addition, he has asked his local fellow carvers to bring him stone (rather than wait for it to come to him). The result is that the stone is unique and unusual in its colour. This carvings is rare and special.
The pale yellow stone Pits has chosen for this perfect owl, is truly one of a kind. I was immediately smitten by its quiet, soothing lightness.
When I saw this owl, I knew immediately this was a noteworthy piece. Its most enduring feature is its quirky naivete. The head is slightly tilted giving him the appearance of a bird in deep thought, weighing his options.
The collage of pale yellows and soft greens are glowing. The aura of this majestic hunter is calm and tranquil. He sits quietly planning the details of his next hunting expedition.
Pits Qimirpik is one of Canada’s most renowned artists for owls. He has a venerable number of international prize winning pieces. All of his owls sell for extremely high prices and rightly so.
Pits’ sculptures are found throughout Canada’s art museums including the National Art Gallery in Ottawa.
This remarkable Owl will not last long. My educated clients wait for these pieces to arrive in the gallery.
This gorgeous bird is signed on the bottom by Pits and comes with the Igloo Tag of Authenticity.
