This is a fine example of Kingwatsiak verging on the abstract. His road towards abstraction is via the streamlining of the body and shape while always keeping in mind the importance of retaining the essential bearlike character of the object; its power, its ferocity, its bulk. When working on a small scale, Kingwatsiak achieves this by exaggerating the bulkiness of the forms.

The neck compressing the torso into the realm of abstract is a deliberate exaggeration by the artist to create further exhilaration.

This is also a rather large piece. This carving is an incredible showcase for any room and deserves its own podium or table.
