Kupapik Ningeocheak is one of Rankin Inlet’s greatest and most respected carvers.
His work reflects the minimalist influence of George Arlook and especially John Tiktak. Tiktak is widely admired for his representations of the human form and face. His organic shapes and hollow openings have led to comparisons with sculptures of Henry Moore.
Ningeocheak’s carving has all the characteristics of minimalist form. The sculpture is formed from hard grey stone (abundant in Rankin Inlet). The piece is understated; the body parts are merely suggested. Only the facial features are precise. The eyes are vacant, the mouth a hollow opening and the lips are exaggerated. This is the influence of Tiktak.
There is a minimalist style to this carving that has a timeless quality.
This rudimentary piece is a masterpiece of nostalgia and timelessness.
We recently had a large Bearman transformation from Ningeocheak which was quickly claimed by one of my appreciative clients.
His carvers are stoic and unique and always sought after.
This carving comes with the Igloo Tag of Authenticity and is signed by the artist.
