This is a dancing bear rendering strong personality, finesse and joy. It also stands on either leg which is a difficult task for the artist to achieve.

Manning's Love of the animal shines through, both in his art and his words. Rather than carving realistic replicas of bears, this artist chooses to capture the animal's essence, its "bearness", in a more streamlined form. Manning's bears almost always stand or 'dance' on two legs, their limbs seemingly truncated or pulled close to the body.

This compression of form releases animal-and sculptural-energy which bequeath playful personality and pungent character. The movements are vocal not only in terms of playfulness, but also innocence.
