This Muskox circle conveys a bleak honesty through its stylized curvatures and expression.

The warm caramel colour of the stone imitates the Muskox's heavy woolly coat.

Derrald is a meticulous carver driven by his resolve to be the best and produce the best.  The headpiece and horns and the facial features are precise and endearing.

And the five beasts are standing in a typical "defensive" position.  When the herd is threatened, the bulls and cows face outward to form a stationary ring around the calves.

Our one lone calf is well protected.

Recently, we have discovered a new artist, Derrald Taylor. He resides in Canada, in the Northwest Territories. The Canadian government offers little support to the artists in this region, so often the carvers struggle to find galleries that will carry their work.

Within these limitations, we occasionally find a hidden gem. Derrald Taylor is one of these “once in a lifetime” gifts! Since I was introduced to Derrald’s masterful talent a year ago, I cannot wait for his carvings to arrive at the gallery. Each carving tells its own poignant tale.

Taylor’s work has toured internationally and has been included in countless publications, Inuit art journals, exhibitions, and museums.
