Inuit art: Caribou
Inuit Artist: Willie Onalik
Size: 7" long, 5.5" tall, 3" wide
Community: Kimmirut, NU
This liberated but timid creature in one of earth’s most graceful subjects.
Willie Onalik has carved a prancing spirited caribou almost equine in habitus. The warm caramel bib focuses our eye on his muscular wide chest reminding us of the power and majesty of this beast.
His antlers are simple and small. Caribou lose their antlers each autumn and regrow them in the spring which leads me to think that he is prancing with exuberance on an early warm spring day.
I could see this joyful animal in repose in a compact space such as a small desk or foyer table. Without a doubt, this sculpture would be the best part of any room.
This sculpture is new and perfect. It comes with the Igloo tag os authenticity.
