This carving is part of a series of two seals Ningeosiak Ashoona recently executed in a beautiful slate of black marble stone.
The highlight of this piece is exclaimed to the stunning black marble stone setting. This establishes a gateway to a euphoric dynamic where the sculpture is completed to a degree of perfection rarely ever seen.
Some of the greatest works of Inuit sculpture defy analysis and sometimes the adjectives actually seem to contradict one another. How can a sculpture have a commanding presence and yet also be genuinely winsome? How can a work be quirkily naive and yet highly refined? This masterpiece has all of these qualities and more besides.
The reflection, polish and shine are divine. The proportions are perfect and extremely realistic.
