This is the first and only bear I have ever seen master carver Pitseolak Qimirpik do. It is also one of his rarer pieces where it can be offered at an affordable price point. I fell in Love with this piece immediately as the beautiful finish, delicate movements and superb proportions render this as one of our top pieces in the gallery.
This piece is what I consider sleek, beautifully refined, and can participate in any museum exhibition.
The tenuous embroidery and visages of his owls have rendered Qimirpik craft as the epitome to the highest order of Inuit art. His fastidious proportions, and exquisite beauty, have endeared Qimiprik's depiction of Northern wildlife to be celebrated among the avant-garde circles of Inuit art. Solo works and publications by him have been adopted and praised worldwide.
This is a masterful bear by Canada's most world renowned artists for owls - Pits Qimirpik. Pits Qimirpik has numerous prize winning pieces on an international scale. His works can be found in Canada's national art collection in Ottawa.
The carving is signed in Inuktitut and dated (2016) on the bottom, and comes with an igloo tag.
