Inuit art: Bird
Inuit Artist: Johnny Takatak
Size: 5" tall, 4" wide, 2" deep
Community: Sanikiluaq, NU
The tenuous embroidery of feathers, atomic proportions, and exquisite beauty, have endeared Takatak's loons to be celebrated among the avant garde circles of Inuit art. Solo works and publications by him have been adopted and praised worldwide.
The Belcher Islands, home to the community of Sanikiluaq, have very large resident and migratory bird populations, so it is no surprise that birds are the most popular subjects of local carvers. Small-scale and elegant, this goose is typical of 1950s art from the community.
Fantastic etching marks (feathers and wings).
Loons are mates for life, that's why they are great as wedding gifts.
This loon is signed by the artist, also comes with igloo tag.
