This is a splendid dancing bear with beautiful proportions and lines. Ottokie is one of several carvers in Cape Dorset who like to create dancing bears. He is one of the better artists for dancing bears as his seem to have much life and movement to them. Ottokie rarely carves from marble, he usually works with traditional serpentine. A rare find!
This piece is very vibrant and very well polished to a mirror shine.
Signed and comes with igoo tag.
Ottokie Samayualie
Ottokie is the son of Cape Dorset artists Johnny and Kuluajuke Tunnillee. Ottokie has followed the same artistic path, as in Nunavut, artistic talent is passed on through the family rather than taught in an art school.
Ottokie Samayualie takes great care in choosing his stone. His carvings are made of the finest serpentine of varying green shades, and then smoothed and polished to best exhibit the lustre of the stone.
Ottokie prefers to carve bears.
