Provenance June 2019- Damien produces only 2 or 3 of his sought after muskoxen per year. He has a flare for using exotic and unusual media in his carvings. This muskox has eyes carved from a 40,000 year old mammoth tooth. The muskox media is a beautiful pale whale bone.

In this intriguing and ambitious work, Iquallaq fuses surface texture with form. The result is that the surface details are not merely decorative but become an integral part of the carving. A prime example in this muskox are the eyes. By using a mammoth tooth fossil for the eyes, Damien has taken what would have been simply a decorative detail (if he had carved the eye detail from the whale bone) and empowered the eyes to become so realistic that they become an essential part of the piece.

I love this Muskox! His huge shoulders are exaggerated which amplify his brutish physique. His horns are fashioned from real muskox horn. The whale bone changes from pale whitish gray to a beautiful soft coral pink colour. Although he is majestic and dominant, Damien has been able to give this beast the countenance of an angel. Look at the sides of his shoulders. Do you see angel wings?

Damien is a rising star. His carvings are imaginative and so alluring!
This beast will be in some lucky client’s collection very soon!
