Note** It is very probable that these are Ashevak Tunnillie’s last available bears. Tunnillie has recently been hospitalized  and it is unlikely he will resume carving.

The heart of a bear is its power, bulk and ferocity. This is a fine example of how Tunnullie streamlines the shape of a bear’s body into an abstract form but never loses the essential “bearness” of the sculpture.

Tunnillie exaggerates the bulkiness of the body in order to achieve the quintessential bear spirit. Then he elongates the bear’s neck and shortens the torso so it appears compressed but extraordinarily powerful and somewhat threatening.

Ashevak is an internationally prized Inuit artist.  Just as Henry Evaluardjuk is synonymous with wonderful walking bears, the name Ashevak Tunnillie embodies the magnificence of sleek striding bears.

This bear carving is a spectacular deep green interspersed with patches of mossy green. Thin white marble veins travel from the tip of the nose along the length of the neck and reappear on his flank. These markings mimic deep linear scars inflicted upon this battle weary warrior.  We respect the perseverance of this old bear and hope he will soon find some rest.

Owning this piece would be priceless.  As Tunnillie’s pieces become increasingly rare, their value will appreciate tremendously.

Do not miss this phenomenal opportunity to include Tunnillie’s bear in your Inuit art collection.

This carving is new and perfect.  It comes with the Igloo tag of authenticity.
