Kooyoo Peter is a world famous Inuit artist whose oeuvre is fashioning large and immensely powerful bears. His sculptures have toured many international and Canadian exhibitions.

Peter is notable for his large walking bears and this particular one has extraordinary grace and elegance for one so large. The stone is smooth and cool to the touch. The black marble glows with a deep green radiance. The stone is euphoric and dynamic.

Peter’s bear is caught in full stride. The light reflecting from the dark marble highlights the powerful exaggerated spinal muscles. Each lumbering movement requires balance and poise. The viewer adores this creature simultaneously for its sheer size and its steadfast spirit.

This bear sculpture is carved with a degree of perfection we have come to expect from Kooyoo Peter.

I could see this bear spirit guarding the entrance to a collector’s home or cottage. Or he would be equally at ease in a boardroom or office.

This sculpture is new. It comes with the Igloo tag of authenticity.
