This is one of the most prolific and dramatic birds I have seen in a very long time. The tenuous and translucent cuts of the wing tips allow this piece to transcend in such a way that it is ready to lift off.
There are numerous bird carvings from Cape Dorset to look at - what makes one work stand out from the rest? In this case it is the overall embodiment and finesisity of the stone as well as the face of the bird. Specifically the eyes; they are absolutely riveting.

The sculpture is signed by the artist in Inuktitut, comes with igloo tag.

Ningeosiak Ashoona (1979 - )

Influenced by her father Kaka Ashoona, Ningeosiak started to carve around 1988. Her mother is Mayoreak Ashoona.
