The striking presence of this muskox rising up from the pearl like Dolomite stone forges a striking composition that could only be achieved by a Master carver like Bobby Anavilok.

Once, maybe twice a year, we receive a carving that is quite frankly, outstanding. This muskox made the list for 2019! The astonishing features of this carving makes it museum worthy. The movement of the creature, the dolomite stone, the intricately carved mane, the finish of the piece; these are all the components of Bobby’s muskox that make it a Masterpiece.

What especially attracts me to this piece is the heavenly white dolomite stone. It really pops and energizes the creature. The contrast between the fur and the horns is powerful. The mane of this particular muskox reminds me of coral. This is by far one of my favourite pieces in the gallery.

Bobby lives in one of the most remote communities in the Northern hemisphere. Not many artists live in Kugluktuk, Nunavut.

All of Bobby’s carvings are sought after by the savvy collector but I have always been particularly fond of his prancing, impossibly agile muskoxen.

This carving would be the ideal gift for almost anyone. The spirit of this animal is optimistic joy and strength.
