This is one of two muskox made by Anavilok as a Spring series collection showcased at the Kugluktuk Hamlet Spring festival. I was extremely fortunate to get my hands on these two muskox.
Once or twice a year, we receive a carving that is quite frankly - Special. For 2017, this one made the list. The astonishing features on this muskox make this nothing short of museum worthy.
The movement, the stone, the finish, the carved fur and everything else about this piece all incapsulate it as a masterpiece period.
What especially attracts me to this piece is the light greyish stone. It really pops and the contrast between the horns and the stone make it really stand out. This is by far one of my favourite pieces in the gallery.
This carving comes from one of the most remote communities in the Northern hemisphere. Sculptures from here rarely get made.
