Are all bear carvings the same?
What makes one more alluring than the other?
This is a standing bear. Yes, bears stand.
And then there are dancing bears. Do bears dance? Not really.
What struck me about our bear, is that he is carved in a very realistic pose.
A grizzly bear would actually look like this bear when it stands up.
Not all Inuit bears are realistic. Oh, their faces and their proportions may look like the real thing, BUT often they are on one foot with an arched back.
Kelly's bear has an exceptionally realistic posture.
He has an unpretentious, old fashioned look that is very attractive.
This piece is reminiscent of a simpler time in Inuit carving.
