Once or twice a year, we receive a carving that is, quite frankly, special. For 2017, this one made the list. The astonishing features on this muskox make this nothing short of museum worthy.
Bobby Nokolak Anaviluk was featured in the fall, 2017 issue of the IAQ (Inuit Art Quarterly).
The movement, the stone, the finish, the carved fur and everything else about this piece all encapsulate it as a masterpiece period.
What especially attracts me to this piece is the light greyish stone. It really pops and the contrast between the horns and the stone make it really stand out. This is by far one of my favourite pieces in the gallery.
This carving comes from one of the most remote communities in the Northern hemisphere. Sculptures from here rarely get made.
