Inuit art: Muskox
Inuit Artist: Joamie Aipeelee
Size: 11" long, 3" wide, 6" tall
This is part of a series of two stunning muskox recently rendered by the master himself - Joamie Aipeelee for Iqaluit.
In this intriguingly ambiguous work, Aipeelee brilliantly fuses surface texture and form into this piece. He proves that texture need not be applied simply as decoration or as a "realistic detail". When applied wisely it can become an integral element of the form in itself. The result is an almost heraldic composition.
The effervescent apple green serpentine stone not only highlights but contrasts beautifully against the off-white eyes and horns. This brings to life the muskox which illuminates its immediate surroundings.
This stunning sculpture comes with an Igloo Tag (Certified of Authenticity), it is also signed by the artist.
