First and foremost, I love walking bears, especially when they are beautifully made such as this one. This bear encompasses everything that makes a carving perfect; there are zero defects, the stone is classic green, and the finish is silky smooth. The proportions are outstanding. You can even see the muscle tone on the bear.

When I first laid eyes on this piece, I made no hesitation in taking it, it is absolutely stunning. There are a few clients I already know who are going to love and want this piece.

Ottokie Ashoona (1970 - )

Ottokie Ashoona was born in Cape Dorset, Baffin Island. Ottokie comes from a family of Inuit artists, his father Kaka and his uncle Kiawak were the two most renowned Cape Dorset carvers and his grandmother Pitseolak Ashoona was a famous graphic artist. His older brother is Ohito Ashoona, who is also a carver. Ottokie learned a lot of carving techniques from Ohito by watching him.
Ottokie's favourite subject is the polar bear.
