Inuit art: Two Owls
Inuit Artist: Charlie Eyaituq (1967)
Size: over 9" long, 5.5" tall, 4.3" wide. Weight: 6 lbs
Community: Sanikiluaq, NU
Stone: argillite

Charlie Eyaituks niche are his owls. They are always carved in a very positive, harmonistic way which really puts the audience in a good mood. His owls are soft with beautiful curvatures and vividly etched eyes. I love the argillite stone he carves with (native to Sanikiluaq). It allows his carvings to take on a refined, smooth texture showing off soft wavy grains surfing across the stone.

I also enjoy the fact that one of the owls is holding a fish. It is a wonderful composition and I was attracted to it immediately.

This is four piece composition (two owls, a fish and a base, attached with wooden pegs).
