I love the simplicity and innocence of this Louie Makittuq carving.

It's not often we see a bear as a drum dancer but this bear is thoroughly absorbed in his singing.

His nose is held high in the air as he appears to be singing at the top of his lungs while striking his drum loudly with drum stick.

Drum dancers are an important part of Inuit culture.  Through song and dance, they teach the history of the Inuit to the new generations.

This way it will never be forgotten.  Drum dancers are respected and revered.

This piece is beautifully carved.

Louie has spent considerable time carving the extensive decoration of the bear's parka.

The dark green colour of the stone is warm and earthy.

The subject of a bear as a drum dancer is rare and enchanting.
