Magnificent Movement!

Samonie Shaa is a Cape Dorset artist whose carving style is reminiscent of Elite Master Carver Nuna Parr.

When I saw this Shaa bear, I was smitten with its gregarious personality.

Cape Dorset carvers are known for creating sculptures which are realistic in appearance and have a sense of humour or lightheartedness in their personalities.

This medium sized dancing bear is meticulously and lovingly crafted by Shaa.

The balance of the bear is incredible.  This piece leans slightly to the left, which makes it even more difficult for the artist to keep the bear from tipping over.

Only very experienced and skilled artists can carve the more complex dancing bears.

The colour of the stone is rich and sophisticated.  When the light strikes the polished mirror finish, magic happens.

There is something about the way Shaa has positioned this paws that gives a sassiness to the piece.

Rain? is an exceptional carving.  He will light up your life for years to come.
