This piece makes me happy. The joyous theme of a bear befriending his seal partner while having a dance sends positive vibes throughout our gallery. Can the world learn something from this? The Inuit are one of the most harmonious easy going people I ever met. This carving is a wonderful representation of their beautiful society and traditions.

Like so many of Pootoogook’s subjects, this jolly bear and seal appears to be enjoying himself immensely. This dynamic sculpture is full of energy that pushes forth in all directions.

This is a beautifully carved striking black colored sculpture made by Mosesee Pootoogook in Cape Dorset, Nunavut. It is elegantly carved with beautiful movement and grace. The bear and seals dark shiny marble stone creates a dramatic effect that makes it very noticeable to an audience. The movement and balance are exquisitely captivating.
