Masterpiece Carving

Provenance: April 23, 2019
This Mother bear and her cub, is the last sculpture in Manasie’s recent and well received “Bear” series.

Manasie Akpaliapik with Alacie HerronThis innocent couple are caught in the act of scavenging in the dump yards for food. This is typical behaviour for the polar bears in Inuit communities. After all, this Mom has a child to feed! The rambunctious pair are now smeared with dirt which Manasie has graphically depicted by using the grey and white marble stone which is so soft and muted. Manasie told me he was inspired by the local bear “bandits”.

In January, Manasie received an enormous slate of white Alabaster stone. This particular shipment was rare because it was so pure and the marble was intensely white. When he showed me the stone, I asked him to make us some Mother and Cub sculptures.

These three carvings are some of the most spectacular depictions of a Mother’s love that I have ever seen in Inuit art. Manasie’s connection with nature and her “children” is the force behind his unique ability to release the spirit of the animal from the stone.

This is the last of the triad of Mother and Cub. I am so elated to be able to offer this Manasie Masterpiece to my clients.

To understand the servitude and significance of Manasie to Canadian art, the National Gallery of Canada devoted one of his pieces centre stage in the Inuit pavilion. The inlaid eyes are Manasie’s raison d’etre and contribution to the Inuit art world.

There is no artist who has mastered this gruelling technique quite like Manasie. Fitting the stone takes patience, skill and experience. It is the vivid eye colour that bring his pieces to life.

Manasie has had many prestigious commissions, including a commission to the National Art Museum of Canada. He is in the premier Elite circle of not just Master carvers, but Premier Master carvers. He, Paul Maliki and Abraham Ruben equally share this title.

This piece is nothing short of an investment. With a Manasie masterpiece you will double your financial efforts in less than ten years.

This is your chance to own a Masterpiece carving by one of the top five Inuit artists in the world.

Do a quick Google search to see Manasie’s international reputation.

Do not hesitate to act if you have bonded with this Mom and her Cub. You don’t want to be disappointed.
