Throughout his illustrious career, Manasie’s raison d’etre and claim to fame has always been his innovative spellbinding bone inventions!
This Manasie muskox is one of the greatest bone carvings I have come across in my career. Of course, this is no surprise. This is a Manasie bone sculpture.
How Manasie is able to take a rigid, stale piece of Arctic Bay whale bone and transform it into a dynamic, powerful and animated Masterpiece, is something I will never understand.
Each component of this carving tells a story.
The face. The flared nostrils and magnificent miniature Muskox horns, are intense and perfect in their detail.
The eyes are incredible. The inserted eyes provide dimension and realism. Look deep into these wise eyes and they are looking right back at you.
The body. The legs are carved from caribou antlers and the body from whale bone. The coarse muskox hair is swirling in the wind. And yet, this beast is able to balance on three legs as he digs at the frozen tundra with his forefoot, looking for food.
When I sit and gaze at this creature, I fully expect it to begin walking.
Its grace and its sweeping side to side movement makes this Manasie Masterpiece a once in a lifetime piece.
Manasie Akpaliapik has had many prestigious commissions, including exhibits in the National Art Museum of Canada in Ottawa.
He sits with the premier Master carvers: Paul Maliki and Abraham Ruben.
This is your opportunity to cherish and possess a masterpiece by one of the top three Inuit artists in the world.
I am so honoured to be able to acquire this exclusive carving from Manasie for my gallery and clients.
