Groan and grunts, whistles and woops - these are some of the sounds you can hear when a male humpback sings!

Did you know the humpback whale song is one of the most widely recognized animal songs?  Only male whales sing. After years of research, it is still not clear why the whales sing.

This is a rare and absolutely stunning Humpback whale carved by Louie Uttaq,

Louie is one of the most well known and prolific Gjoa Haven artists.

Beluga whale carvings are more common in Inuit art than Humpback whales even though the Humpback lives in all the oceans of the world.

The lines and proportions of this sculpture are flawless. The dark serpentine stone is the perfect colour. The large mouth gives the impression that the whale is smiling.

The carving is elevated on a caribou antler stand which gives the illusion of the whale travelling slowly through the ocean.

This whale has personality.  When you are near it, you swear it is trying to silently  communicate  with you.

How extraordinary to present your whale carvings in a group as if they were a pod of whales? This large humpback would be a striking addition to such a collection.

This would be an extraordinary gift for a wedding, birthday, or Christmas, especially to someone who is new to Inuit art because this sculpture has such universal appeal.
