* Pavinak Petaulassie SIGNATURE Caribou Carving

CURATOR'S CHOICE
Pavinak's Signature caribou carvings are recognized immediately for their gentleness, upturned snouts, large oval eyes, stubby limbs and chunky antlers. They are both comical and enchanting.  This Caribou mother and her calf are an unusual deep mustard yellow. Pavinak usually used dark stone but this pair could easily hide in the autumn forest.  Pavinak has been gone for over three years.  This carving was an unexpected find and I found myself missing both Pavinak and his charismatic carvings. For this reason, Tundra Love is a CURATOR'S CHOICE.

Provenance, October 2022: Sadly, in 2019 Pavinak took his own life. He was a pillar for the Inuit art community. His gentle and jolly caribous were his Signature carvings. This caribou came back from another gallery that closed down. Three years after his death, Tundra Love is probably the last Petaulassie carving that you will find outside of the Auction houses.

Tundra Love is a precious Petaulassie depiction of the Mother and Child bond.

I was stunned when I came upon this enchanted piece and for all the reasons I stated above, I had to have this piece.
