**Joamie Aipeelee SIGNATURE Muskox carving
Masterpiece Sculpture! Museum quality Carving!
NOTE** Joamie Ipeelee (1963-2020) passed away unexpectedly. He was a good friend and superb carver and I will miss him.
This is a superb Muskox by Joamie Ipeelee from Iqaluit.
Rock is made from a sophisticated pale yellow and green serpentine with black flecks.
The stone resembles lichen or the tundra fauna.
Rock's eyes and horns contrast beautifully with his colour.
This muskox is a quiet and regal beast.
Collectors of Muskox sculptures understand the importance of the back hump.
Many carvers choose to exaggerate the hump. But Ipeelee moderates the hump which is a refreshing approach to a feature that can occasionally be overdone.
I respect Joamie's work. He is a thoughtful and skilled artist.
